The Little Fish Shack Which Refused to Go Away.
Do you know the unusual name for this iconic structure in Rockport Harbor, Massachusetts? Rockport Harbor has been the setting of several movies, including the 2009 Sandra Bullock film, The Proposal, where it stood in for Sitka, Alaska! In 1957 and 1958, it was the setting for the television show Harbourmaster starring Barry Sullivan. Still can’t guess the name of the red building on the pier? Not too many folks can, but I’ll guess that any serious student of art or art history can name the building seen here.
The popular red structure is called Motif #1. Why? Because it has been painted, sketched, drawn and photographed so many times over the years, it simply became known as Motif #1. Also known as Motif Number 1, and as The Little Fish Shack Which Refused to Go Away.
I love all things “coastal”, so this image is in my DOCUMERICA Top 25! Deborah Parks snapped this photograph for DOCUMERICA in February 1973. Enjoy!
